Our fifth graders enjoyed learning about rainforests, deserts and the tundra in our previous unit on biomes. Now we are currently studying ecosystems and interactions between living organisms and their environment. We’re learning that God designed all the organisms and the other parts and of an ecosystem to work together and to be dependent on each other. It is another magnificent example of God’s creation existing in perfect balance!

The 6th graders thought our studies of the Solar System were out of this world! Now we’re looking at science on a MUCH smaller scale – namely the atom! We are beginning by looking at the structure of the atom and learning about the Periodic Table. We will then build on that foundation of knowledge and learn about how the flow of electrons can produce electricity and how electrical and chemical energy can be changed into mechanical energy. This unit will help us to see the wonderful way God holds our universe together.

Our focus in 7th grade is currently on vertebrates. We’ve learned about fish, amphibians and reptiles and now we’re moving on to birds and mammals. What similarities can be seen between these groups? What characteristics make each of these groups unique? Next we will look at animal behaviors. What behaviors are animals born with, and which ones do they have to learn?

The 8th graders spent the first half of the school year learning about outer space. Now our studies bring us closer to home, starting with a look at the atmosphere on Earth. We are learning about meteorology, from what causes beautiful, cloudless skies to what causes the most severe forms of weather. Next we will dig deeper with a unit on minerals, rocks and fossils!
